Counselling

What is Counselling?

Counsellors and Counselling in GlasgowThat’s a good question. There are many myths about counselling, most of them rooted in outdated ideas about psychology and psychotherapy. Couches, asylums and bearded old men are what springs to mind for most people, some of whom could really benefit from what counselling in Glasgow offers today.

What we provide

We offer a unique counselling experience that consists of one-to-one sessions as well as effective plans and targets to help you overcome any obstacles you may have in your life with which you feel you need help. Think of counselling as a sort of mirror – a unique relationship in which the Counsellor’s job is to help the client to see themselves more clearly. We all have experiences in which we can’t see things about ourselves without the use of such a mirror.

Types of Counselling we offer

Individual Counselling – This is a team consisting of counsellor and client working together, whether this is on achieving goals, working with emotional issues, or particular problems that need to be overcome. The counsellor cares genuinely about the client so that a unique and trusting connection develops. This leads the client to form a new relationship with themselves which is more accepting.

Couple/Relationship Counselling – Some clients are resistant to this, opting to talk about their relationship with a counsellor individually. However, by directly involving the partner in the counselling sessions, this allows their perspective to be brought into the counselling process, alongside the benefits of the individual counselling.

Relationship counselling service provides a safe space in which individuals and couples can explore how they feel about, and experience, their relationships with a DTR counsellor who is trained and experienced in working with relationship difficulties.

Our counsellors won’t tell you what to do. What you decide to do about your difficulties – either individually or as a couple – is for you to decide. Dreams to Realities are there to support you in that process.

All sorts of people come to DTR for relationship counselling – older, younger, straight, gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender. Our counsellors will always give you the respect you deserve and are great at helping you find the best way forward.

Dreams to Realities can help you, your partner and family with breakups, arguments, affairs, sexual problems, step-families, retirement, new baby… anything that has an effect on your relationships.

Group Counselling – Whilst a little intimidating, group counselling has advantages. It provides at least as many “mirrors” as group members. Also, if a client’s personal struggle impacts on their relationships, group counselling is often most helpful, being a safe place to get feedback on how others see them.
