Counsellor and Psychotherapist Supervision

Dreams to Realities (DTR) provides clinical supervision for qualified counsellors and psychotherapists. Clinical supervision brings together experienced supervisors and supervisees to reflect on practice, supporting professional growth and safeguarding client welfare through impartial oversight.

Regular supervision is essential, with a recommended minimum of one and a half hours per month of clinical supervision, depending on caseload (BABCP guidelines).

DTR’s supervision aims to offer a confidential environment for practitioners to discuss their work and professional responses. The focus is on enhancing both personal and professional development and reflective practice.

As a qualified clinical supervisor, Billy Shaw oversees casework and professional issues, addresses legal and ethical matters, and applies various supervision models to meet individual needs.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Establishing clear contracts and boundaries
  • Exploring transference and countertransference
  • Addressing complex cases, interventions, and protocols
  • Focusing on the immediate supervisory process
  • Providing constructive feedback and appropriate challenge
  • Upholding ethical standards
  • Encouraging relevant agenda-setting and experience sharing
  • Monitoring fitness to practise and self-care
  • Ensuring effective record-keeping and ongoing professional development
